the pups to young pal,let it grow,it doesnt do any good for your pup to chase things that its not gonna catch, you need to build confidence, not shatter it

we were not out chasing things, was away in me caravan , when out walking we saw them , plus matey i,ve kept lurchers for 20 plus years , i no she,s to young , , cheers matey,

p.s. but it was fun to watch , she ran them because of her natrual instink to do so , which should be for all lucrher pup,s . :good:

is the ground not too hard down there to be running dogs on?

it is matey, but when yer pup runs you canna say dunna run. specaily if its seen somthing it wants to chase. as no other dogs was about she was off the lead. hoping she have a crap before we chill out .

it just was nice to see her run after a live rabbit befor she was introduced to them at the end of september.

cheers matey savageboy :good:

Not one to butt in but.... you will see her run plenty of rabbits when the season starts so whats the rush? i can understand that you are happy that your dog is showing willing but if you have run lurchers for 20 years then you should know that runnig them at 5 month old will do more harm than good mate!

PS - personally I would have kept her on the lead if i knew there would be rabbits hanging around!! :good:

yeh , no what yer mean , but i exersize me dog off the lead, is just the same when yer go out with yer mates and there pup,s for a run,

i,ve never had any problem,s with me lurchers if they chased the odd rabbit while growing up, they have all turned out cracking rabbiting dog,s, and mine used to be all rounder,s , great on rabbit , kill foxes in a split second, draw foxes from dig,s, so just mooching about walking yer pup off lead will do no harm whats so ever , cheers savageboy

the lad was just saying he was pleased with his dog,..showing natural instinct...he never said he was out running rabbits,...or single handed coursing or whatever anyone else thinks he said...he was just happy with his pup doing what it will do naturally...and if its some peoples choice to keep there pup on a lead till 12.. 13 months old till its sees a rabbit are enough but thats not my way..

It may be a case of crossed wires here but from the first post it sounded like the pup had ran a rabbit and then gone back out later on and done the same thing :icon_eek:

Fair enough the lads got all the right in the world to be happy at his pup showing "Natural instinct" but the same "Natural instinct" will be seen in 3 or 4 months time, all i'm saying is after the first run I would have been a bit more cautious the second time round..... but..... each to there own eh? What ever works for ya!! :good:

I maybe wrong but I personally wouldn't let my pup run a rabbit at 5 months, I have seen too many dogs spoilt this way............. first time an accident, maybe, but the second run.... deliberatly!!

PS - there was no mention of keeping a dog on the lead until 12 month old ;)

just got back from me caravan , and was quite amazed at people who thought i was out hunting rabbits with a 5 month old , pup , lol, try reading the tread , i,ll explane for the thick ones , I WAS NOT HUNTING RABBITS WITH A 5 MONTH OLD PUP , WE WERE WALKING WHEN A COUPLE GOT UP AND SHE CHASED THEM , THE SECOND TIME I WAS GOING TO THE TOILET AND SHE RAN 2 ON HER OWN OFF THE LEAD ,

i do not keep my dog on a lead till its 12 month,s pld just un case it runs a rabbit lol. first i use the lead to get to where i,m going to exersize me dogs then they run about , keeps em fit , if a rabbit poped up a nd me pup ran after it , it will do her no harm . my lurcher,s have allways being an all rounder,s on ALL quarry

so p0leaqse befor you reply to any of my treads please read them properly. all the best savageboy :yahoo::clapper:

the thick ones, wouldnt be letting there dog chase anything it doesnt have a hope of catching, would they?but as you have said ,all your lurchers have been first class, killing foxes in seconds etc,and i cant say the same about all of mine,so maby your on to something in overmatching your pups, maby its where ive been going wrong looking for an all rounder

Not sticking up for anyone here but Skinnyrat you seem to be trying to cause an argument here !!!!

Where in the thread has the bloke said "all his dogs are 1st class", he says they made decent dogs ???? Because i cant see it !!!!!!!

The bloke explained pretty clearly at the start of his thread that he was just walking his dogs when they ran a couple of rabbits. I get the feeling that he was pleased that they showed an interest to chase more than anything. Obviously if this happened on a regular basis then it would sicken his dog, but i think he knows that himself.

Come on Skinnyrat save your breath mate, the bloke put what seems an honest post up and it's just been turned into an other argument :no::(

All the best Tommy ;);)
